Our Commitment to Accessibility
Wishful Paws Café & Dog Lounge is committed to making our website usable by the widest possible audience, including people with disabilities. Our whole reason for existing is to make rescue approachable, and a website that shuts people out would work against that.
We are working toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive and neurological disabilities.
Measures We Take
Steps we have taken across this website include:
- Logical heading structure. Each page has a single H1 and a consistent heading order, so screen reader users can navigate by heading.
- Colour contrast. Body text, headings and button labels are checked against WCAG contrast ratios rather than chosen by eye.
- Readable type. Body copy is set at 18px or larger, and text can be enlarged without loss of content or function.
- Keyboard operability. Links, buttons, form fields and the FAQ accordions can all be reached and operated without a mouse.
- Descriptive image alternatives. Photographs carry alternative text that describes what they show.
- Responsive layouts. Pages reflow on tablets and phones rather than requiring horizontal scrolling.
- Descriptive links. Link text describes its destination rather than relying on phrases like “click here.”
Known Limitations and Ongoing Work
Accessibility is an ongoing effort rather than a finished state. We are currently aware of, and working on, the following:
- Third-party content. Our booking system, payment processing and embedded forms are provided by outside services that we do not control and cannot guarantee are accessible.
- Image alternative text. Some images are still placeholders and will receive meaningful descriptions as final photography is added.
- Form labels. We are reviewing our contact and newsletter forms to confirm every field carries a visible, programmatically associated label.
